How do you reset a machine account for an Active Directory Identity Source?

$

We had to restore a vcenter 6 (VCSA) from backups. The AD connection is no longer working and I'm guessing the machine account credentials need to be reset. How can I reset them without breaking all the permissions we have configured in vCenter?

I tried resetting the computer account in AD and opening the Identity source in vCenter and clicking OK. Sort of like you do with Windows computers.

The error I'm getting in the web GUI is:

The name of the identity source does not match the existing Integrated Windows Authentication identity source

Unable to move ESXi from vDS to vDS/vSS

Hi Team,

I'm want to migrate ESXi host from vDS to another vDS switch. Currently tried to migrate from vDS to vSS, but it's not working. This host is part of one cluster, which is configured with vSAN.

Is there any way to migrate the host from vDS to another vDS in the same vCenter?

Intel Turbo Boost Not Working ?

$

Hi Folks

I'm running ESXI 6.0.0 VMKernel Release Build 3620759 on a Supermicro X10DRi motherboard with 2x Intel Xeon E5-2620 V3 CPUs with base frequency of 2.4 GHz, and Turbo at 3.2 GHz.

As far as I can tell, I have enabled turbo boost in the BIOS following the instructions for my mother board here:

https://www.supermicro.com/support/faqs/faq.cfm?faq=21555

I have EVC mode disabled and have set the Power Management policy to High Performance.

Running a Windows 7 VM with prime 95 stress test maxing out all 4 cpu cores.

CPU-Z is running, correctly reporting the CPU model.  However the Core Speed never goes above 2.4 GHz.  Also the CPU usage according to the vSphere client is also maxed out at~ 2.5 GHz

Would anybody have any idea as to why I am not seeing the expected 3.2 GHz based on Intel Turbo Boost ?

Thanks so much.

Re: Convert mathematical formula to vROPs super metric ?

Hi Ankit, you probably need to break it up into multiple supermetrics and place the datastores into a custom group. So create a super metric for the datastores to calculate the IOPS x AvgResponse, then create another supermetric that uses the individual metric created in step 1 together with the depth option to calculate the overall value. As for the (10+100) value you can use the depth option again to calculate the total for all the datastores in the group.

policy tags

It would be nice to expose some of the properties/values in the policy - such as buffer for example. However it doesn't look like this is possible - having said that I can see policy tags which might help it setting some of these values then being able to include them in reports using policy tags however I can't find where to assign policy tags... assuming this is talking about vRops policies?

CPU and RAM Overcommit ratio

Hi All, 1. Is there an out of the box metric in vRops 6.2 for the RAM Overcommit ratio for a cluster for both powered on and powered off vm's? 2. Is the CPU|Demand|Consumption ratio based on the powered on vm's or all vm's or the equivalent of vCPUs for the amount of CPU Demand in MHz? thanks in advance...

Epic fail

I have tried using the converter tool and it gets to 98% and fails. The best way to explain this is with a picture.  There is a Windows 2008 R2 guest residing on a virtual disk that is 1.91 TB and the amount of data on this server is about 150 GB.  I simply want to reduce the size of the virtual disk to something closer to 500 GB.  There is a 1.4 TB unused partition in the Windows guest OS.  The C and D volumes are both on the same VD.  There has got to be a way to reduce the size of this thing and do away with this huge unused partition.  I have Veeam Backup and Replication 8 at my disposal, the VMware converter tool standalone, diskpart, and other command-line Linux tools - it's ESXi 5.5.  I would be super thankful if someone can give me some suggestions on how to do this.  Seems like I tried restoring a backup and it restores it the same way with the unneeded partition.  Tried the converter tool, that seems like the best way to accomplish this but I was doing something wrong.  Please see attached... many thanks!

ljaquet,

Sorry, I'm a bit confused.

Do you mean you want to access a shared folder (SMB or NAS) from your NAT Windows VM, but you could not(either using IP or hostname)?

Hi Fluxblocker,

You can basically do it correctly with the vCenter Converter. After you select the part of the Destination Location you will go to the Options now, in there you can basically select which disk you can only migrate together with your virtual machine on the basic settings or you can also go for the Advance settings where you can actually select the capacity of the disk you want only to migrate.

Hope I was able to help.

Cheers.

Hi Kris

Welcome to Fusion Community. I am sorry about your issue.

I am currently investigating your issue, but  I can install the  New VM from Recovery Partition-Sierra in Fusion 8.5.

Could you provide me some information it will help us to find this issue?

1. Would you be able to click Help > Collect Support Information and send that to me: rogerz at vmware dot com?

2. Could you let me know your mac info(e.g. hard drive, processor, Mac info ,like MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) ..)

3. I am not sure why would you like to convert CoreStorage to regular partition?

4. Your Sierra version ? Version 10.12.1 Beta(16B233a)?

Regards

Fusion 6 was built four years ago.    Apple's made a ton of changes to the internal plumbing of OSX since then.  Best to take advantage of the discounted price and get on a current release.

Also make sure you shut down - not suspend - the VM when switching OS's.

It wouldn't hurt to make regular backups (not time machine) when doing this in case something gets mucked up.

Try any of the solutions below if some of it works. Make sure VMware tools is Installed or recently just Installed. if not you may reinstall your VMware tools once again before performaing any of the steps below.

1. If your host computer's screen resolution is high enough, you can enlarge the window, choose Fit Guest to Window to deselect it, then choose Fit Guest to Window once more to select it again.

2. If your host computer's screen resolution does not allow you to enlarge the window enough, do not use Fit Guest to Window. If it is selected, choose it again to deselect it. Then set the guest operating system's screen resolution to 640 x 480 or larger.

3. Inside of the directory where your guest operating system is stored, there is a file with a name like guestOS.vmx.  While your virtual machine is not running, open your text editor (wordpad or notepad) and configure the (svga.maxWidth = "your number") and (svga.maxHeight = "your number") and start again your virtual machine.

4. In the VSphere client click the edit the settings of the Virtual Machine. Then select the Video card and specify the custom settings and possible to enable 3D Support.

Please let us know which of this works.

Cheers

The previous answer was almost correct. Just type "C:\Progra~1\VMware\VMware~1\Drivers\Video" instead of "C:\program files\VMware\VMware Tools\Drivers\Video"
